Break Your Mould

Here are two versions of my illustrated flip-book based on the theme of metamorphoses.
The narrative which lasts for under 30 seconds conveys an alternative take on the cliche evolution of an egg to a bird.

I wanted to express how we are brought up within a given mould in society that is shaped by other peoples beliefs instilled upon us (religion, culture etc); whether we like this or not, and then it is up us as individuals to open the door and our minds to the rest of the world.

ENJOY :)

Sensory Mutilation Conversation

Apologies for not uploading for a while!
One of the first uni projects for Illustration class.. As you can probably see I got to practice drawing anatomical body parts for quite a few hours hahaa.  Hope you enjoy these.. they're meant to convey how a fusion of the senses provide humans with ultimate communication.

Model-esque

This was drawn from a photograph I took of Jen a while ago at home in the kitchen.

Today my uncle saw some of my art and asked me- "Is this considered good? Cause I don;t see the point in portraits, why not just take a photo?" Do you agree with this mind-set? It got me questioning my work in the sense that I want to start creating works with more depth, but, i do fucking love portraits.

Progress... Nearly fell off my spinning chair taking this picture haa

"The Dark-Eyed Junco is a Common Winter Bird"

(Click picture to enlarge ^)

This guy was drawn in the waiting room at Cotham hospital prior to 4 of my wisdom teeth being removed today... *Currently still on Morphine*. I drew from a photograph I kept which was ripped out of an encyclopedia found in someone's hard rubbish when going for a run one day.  The info on the bird says Junco's are a member of the finch family which reminds me of a finch I distinctly remember drawing in primary school which I am going to go and look for now :)

Present

These were my parents christmas presents this year (real cost effective)

Dad is watercolour pencil, tea and ink.
Mum is watercolour pencil and coloured pencil. Hers was inspired by the style of artist Lucy Fahey. The unconventional colour scheme kind of scares me, but in a good way.

xx?

I've been pretty scared to post my first post but it has finally happened

The purpose of this blog is for me to have a place where I can expose some of my personal works/experimentation to a wider audience so.. enjoy! Any feedback will be greatly appreciated :)

These were my finals from my high school Studio Arts class this year which I spent a fair bit of time working on,  so apologies if my future posts aren't quite as cared for.

(Thankyou to Ursula, Jade and Jemimah for being such lovely subject matter.)
